A must read, folks. Once again, with never-failing honesty, Samuelson touches on the truth: “Anybody who talks without stuttering and silences about the great matters of life and love and getting through the day is being untrue to them. The real art lies not in flawless execution but in timing, pauses, hesitations, failures, stories, pointless details, tone.”

Fantastic. You’ve sent me back to my favourite Bishop, “Filling Station,” and there they are, the attributes you’ve identified. Disarmingly inarticulate surprise that’s somehow, at the same time, supremely precise poetry. A knack for conveying the grasping to find the right words that is, somehow, itself the right words. Thanks for the fresh read.
