Fantastic recollection of growing up. Raised in an Irish Catholic (Mother -- Belfast) & German Protestant (Father) home that only met due to a mistake at the Knights of Columbus we were in one of the most fortunate melting pots of Post WWII. Relationships that strained families beyond the borders of the U.S. for sure. Very sorry for your losses still.

Tangentially -- I caught an old Malcolm Gladwell talk on my lunch break this week (back when he was promoting Talking to Strangers) in which he reviews Levine's truth-default theory, the idea that our credulity is an evolutionary advantage, that we must err on the side of trust to cooperate. Interesting to consider. Your personal reflections are so powerful! Thanks.
